Heritage Statements

Heritage Statements assess the significance of heritage assets and the potential impact of proposed developments upon them, as required by national planning policy.

Heritage Consultancy

Heritage Statements (also known as Heritage Assessments or Heritage Impact Assessments) are required to support planning applications that affect heritage assets or their settings. The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires applicants to describe the significance of any heritage assets affected by a proposal, including any contribution made by their setting.

Our experienced team of heritage consultants prepare Heritage Statements that clearly and concisely set out the significance of affected heritage assets and provide a robust assessment of the impact of proposed developments. We work closely with local planning authorities, Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland, Cadw and other statutory consultees to ensure that our assessments meet their requirements.

We provide Heritage Statements for a wide range of development types, from individual householder applications through to nationally significant infrastructure projects. Our approach is proportionate to the significance of the heritage assets and the scale of the proposed development.

Our Approach

We take a systematic approach to the preparation of Heritage Statements, which typically involves a desk-based review of the available historic environment data, a site visit to assess the heritage assets and their settings, and consultation with the relevant statutory bodies.

Our Heritage Statements are prepared in accordance with the relevant legislation and policy guidance, including the NPPF, the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, and the relevant Historic England guidance notes.
