Matt Berry

Upon completion of his BA in Archaeology in 2011, Matt was awarded a studentship to study the MSc in Archaeological Prospection at the University of Bradford. His MSc dissertation looked at the feasibility of using existing magnetometer sensors on a GPS tracked multi-sensor cart system.

After a brief period working in commercial geophysics, Matt attained a research post at The British School at Rome. This position gave the unrivalled experience of conducting geophysical surveys on a variety of nationally significant archaeological sites across Europe and Africa. Matt was responsible for the collection, processing and interpretation of geophysical data sets for subsequent publication in academic papers.

After returning to the UK and before moving to Headland Archaeology, Matt supervised a significant number of surveys for Bartlett-Clark Consultancy. Since 2014 he has supervised a wide variety of work using multiple geophysical techniques such as magnetometry, electromagnetic (EM) and ground penetrating radar (GPR) for major infrastructure projects, large linear pipeline and road network schemes, large housing and renewable energy projects, and the aggregates industry. With over 15 years’ experience of undertaking geophysical surveys, Matt is also trained in using a number of data processing and visualisation packages including AutoCAD and GIS.
